New Version (now with API!)

Posted by Matt Thu, 11 May 2006 16:10:00 GMT

Things were getting a bit dusty around here so we decided to push a new version of Flagr.

In this release we added a truly RESTful API. You can search for flags, retrieve a specific flag or create a new flag. A client from MobileGlu, which incorporates the API will be coming out shortly. We hope they are the first which take advantage of our API. Just let us know when you create a super sweet mashup and we'll post it here.

We also changed up the friends page a bit. We added the ability to find people that live near you. So go out and make a new friend today.

Has the 'mouse over' feature on the flags list - causing the map title to show in the main map window always been there, or did I just notice it? You will never understand what I'm waffling about, but I think it's new - and I like it.

Hi, you are making a terrific good job. i love flagr, but... quote(paul graham blog, being copied): "..If you're building anything good enough to copy, you're ahead.." look at this site in germany: http://www.qype.com

Hi, just found your site, and I like it a lot. Great job. One thing I'm missing (or missed) is the ability to view ONLY my flags. Even when I click on the YOURS tab I still get flags from other people. The reason I played with your site is because I wanted to mark the places and countries I've been to, and display the map in my blog. I think this is a great way for you to create many permanent links to your site. To do that you need a page that shows only my flags on a world map (zoomable to US map etc.) that can be saved with a link to your site (give some kind of HTML code for people to paste). Another great feature will be to add a date field to every flag, so: 1. People will know how updated each person's experience is. 2. You'll be able to draw a route between all my flags to display my travel path. Since I've been to many countries, my map will be worldwide. For younger users, I assume a more local travel path will be used (cities / local places instead of countries). And again, great job

Eliram: Can you be more specific about how you see other users' flags appearing in the "YOURS" tab? (They shouldn't be)

When I go to the FLAGS area, I start at the EVERYONE'S tab that shows some red flags. When I switch to the YOURS tab, I see my own blue flags, but the red ones are still there. Can't really get rid of them unless I refresh the whole site. I sent a screenshot to David by email.
