Apparently, there is a town in New Mexico called
Truth or Consequences... someone should lose their city naming privileges over this one.
On another note, there is an
early mushroom cloud (or perhaps a fungal infection) in florida.

This is where we think.
Anyone recognize the prison in the background?

Just wanted to give a shout out to a few star Flagrs...some of my favorites:
stowawayhome - Beautiful places, wonderful pictures, short yet meaningful descriptions. But he/she has no friends. Come on... let 'em know we care!
denimnews - This guy is on fire with the mobile flags. Him and his buddies own NYC, apparently. According to his profile, he likes women with long dark hair. If you find yourself with such traits, you may be interested... he seems like he frequents some fancy (expensive) places.
Altzgamer - He shows us how beautiful Russia really is. Although he made a comment that disturbs me.
dlin - Dan's been all sorts of places, mostly in the US. He also has a hefty amount of amigos.
jeffremer - Jeff knows San Francisco pretty well, but has some interesting flags in Hawaii and Brazil.
Keep bringing in the cool places. It's a blast seeing where everyone's been.

The guys over at
Reddit.com are awesome... so awesome they gave us our very own "Subreddit." Basically, Reddit is a really cool way to check-out, submit, and vote on the most interesting links online - kinda like digg, but with much better content.
Well, instead of links, we have one for Features. It's like our
Wishlist, but on "creotine." No, the wishlist isn't dead, we just wanted to give you a way to tell us what features should get implemented first.
So get voting! ... plus, you can submit the features you think should be voted on.

So a number of people have been asking for a Firefox extension. I had a little spare time tonight and thus Flagrfox was born.
It's not finished, it's not polished but it is functional. So try it out and tell us what you think.
Download it, open it with FireFox and finally restart Firefox. Then any time you highlight an address on the web just right click and Flag it.

We re-worked a lot of the javascript to make the flag loading experience... well.. less of an experience. Hopefully it's zippy in your browser too. If not, be sure to
let us know.
Now for some fun... more
video from rikabel, funny
comments, and my own little
discovery.

So almost everyone refers to Flagr as a mashup, but I beg to differ...
A mashup, by definition, is a service that combines at least two services...diggdot.us is a good example.
So why do people call flagr a mashup? Is it because we use a google map? If so, Google maps API use has become synomymous with a mashup, no matter what the case. In other words, the word "mashup" has lost it's original meaning. It's simply a loose buzzword, like web 2.0 and ajax.
I'd like to hear it from you. Do you think Flagr is a mashup?

We just pushed an update to the maps that allows you to see ALL the information in any area. Zoom in, take a poke around, and discover someplace new. For real this time.
And tell us what you think!

Yep, it's possible. And before it was even announced (count this as the un-official announcement) we woke to a special
surprise. It seems one adventurous user decided to just try it.
You can expect some formatting issues with YouTube, as their default video player is a bit larger, but we'll fix that and make the official announcement on the site. In the mean time, play around and
see what you can put on a map. Just make sure it's at most 320 pixels wide.

It's our first major update and we are totally pumped.
Comments
Now you can add information to other people's flags that you think are cool.
RSS feeds
Addicted to Flagr? Check out the RSS feed on your summary page (right above your flags list). Now you can see what your friends are flagging all the time.
Permalinks
Wanted to blog about that really sweet place you found on Flagr? Just use the permalink available in the sidebar.

Yep, It's a blog post. Three days... yikes. I'll just say we've been a little busy in the kitchen. In a way, we rarely leave that metaphorical kitchen, although we're always happy to take more
orders.
I must say there have been a lot of requests for a more worldy mobile solution. We hear you. We want to do this OH SO bad, and it's something we will continue to pursue. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for the map data, along with a bunch of other complicated stuff.
Hey, do you know of any places like
this? I've passed a couple in my time, but now I'll surely pay more attention.
Hence, the beauty of a flag, especially one from a
mobile phone.
Up.. smell that? I think you better go wash your hands. Breakfast is almost ready. Here ends the extended metaphor.

Recently we've noticed problems with Geocoding addresses - if you've tried to add a flag by address, either online or from your phone in the last day, you might have noticed this issue. Strange how these things pop-up, but it seemed to be a problem with one of the geocoding services, not our code.
Mobile members, resend you're Flags! Here's a link to the
Mobile How-To.
In other news, we fixed the 'Remeber Me' checkbox when you log-in. At times it seemed to be quite forgetful.
All it needed was a shot of Ginko Biloba.

What excites me is not so much the number than it is the speed at which we've hit the thousand mark. It's day 4. Yeesh.
Here are some really interesting flags in
Russia , or take a look at this
plane in Japan. I bet there are a bunch of crazy Satellite images out there. Find 'em and maybe they'll end up here.

Yesterday was a really heavy day, and our first thus far. We had people coming in drones of thousands from sites like Reddit, Digg, Del.icio.us, and PaulGraham.com. So we decided to buy another server.
Plus, we added links on the footer of each page to make it easy for people to Reddit us, Digg us, and tag us on Del.icio.us. Thanks to everyone that has so far!

Awesome.. it works! Now it's time to make Flagr even better. Remember, this is Flagr at it's most basic of levels. Use it and abuse it (in a good way.)
Then tell us what you'd like to see, or what you think could be better. We read everything.
So that's what we're working on today, and tomorrow... and probably the next day.
And remember, we love
suggestions.

We're working really hard to make the question of "Where?" easier to answer. This first full day has been quite exciting... being that it's the first and all.
So... what can you expect to see in the near future? Flagr is a living site. It's updated every day, if not hourly during our waking hours. If you don't immediately see the changes on the surface, they're probably happening in the background as we clean up code to solidify this initial release, and work on new and cool features (the ones you're probably requesting in our
Wishlist.)
If you'd like to help make Flagr better, submit bugs if and when you see them. We'll smack those suckers dead (Not that we do that to real bugs - I kinda like those.)
We're Flagr users, too, so we feel the frustration as much as you do when things don't work, if not more.
